Month: November 2017

Congratulations to my student Issy Taylor for her outstanding results at the Tasmanian Amateur and Women’s Strokeplay Championship with PB’s and course records!

Issy made a formidable start shooting a course record 67 on the tough Tasmania Golf Club at the Tasmanian Amateur where she emerged Medallist beating top Australian junior Grace Kim from NSW.

Moving onto the Women’s Strokeplay Championship at Royal Hobart, Issy opened the 4-day event with another 67 followed by 74, 73 and the day’s best score 70 in the final round to finish 8 under for the tournament and runner up. Making her achievements all the more remarkable Issy only just finished her year 11 exams in time to get to the Tasmanian Amateur!

Issy’s been working hard on her mental game to make birdie opportunities count and this week she’s proven that she can, also throwing in a couple of eagles! Issy has also been making improvements in the gym and understands the value of physicality in golf. Well done Issy!

Last month, I was in Japan and one of the highlights of my trip was catching up with Shun Ueno(my student) who was a member at Sanctuary Cove Golf Club about 3 years ago.
A tragic pool accident last December left Shun paralysed and turned his world upside down along with his family rearranging there lives. I’m really excited to show everybody a shot I took at Shun’s home in Tokyo! After 10 months of intensive rehabilitation and great work by doctors in Tokyo Shun is standing and can walk independently which is a miracle and goes to show what determination Shun has inside!

Still Shun has some work in front of him no doubt but full function is his goal. His family has shown great strength during his rehabilitation and it’s great to see Shun improving and back at school plus catching buses to come home.

Well done Shun we are all proud of you!!! We often should appreciate what we have and know how precious life can be.💪💪💪👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍

It’s been great working with Norika Tsukamoto who has been with MJ Golf for the past 9 months at Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club.
Norika has enjoyed our holistic approach to Golf Performance and it’s been reflected in Norika’s handicap reducing from 14 to 8. Specific golf fitness training programs and clubfitting have increased Norika’s learning curve. With kangaroos to watch Norika practice she has really enjoyed the world class practice facilities at Sanctuary Cove and Country Club.

Great sportsmanship by Harry Phillips in a junior tournament last month at Pacific Harbour Golf Club. After one of his playing partners had a really tough hole and got a little emotional, Harry consoled him and encouraged him to play better on the next hole! In this day and age with trophy parents and all cost winning it’s refreshing to see kids supporting one another when things are tough! Great gesture Harry!
